An animatic is a computer animated sequence of low quality animation and models that is used to depict the action an audience will see in a final film. Animatics are usually created for sequences that involve special effects, or complicated dramatic camera moves. This is an effective technique to see whether a particular effect or sequence is going to work to the director's satisfaction before a lot of work goes into filming or production of an animated sequence.

Usually an animatic looks very simular to the quality of a 3d video game (although many games surpass the quality of an animatic). Most often animatics are animated very simply to block out the action of particular event.
